Who this helps

Individuals, families and eligible NRIs seeking a relationship for regular-plan mutual fund participation and ongoing record support. NRI transactions require case-specific residence, scheme and documentation acceptance.

Discuss suitability before the payment method

A SIP is a schedule for investing; it is not a separate asset class or a guarantee of a favourable outcome. Discuss the goal date, income reliability, liquidity needs, existing exposures and risk before considering scheme categories. A calculator helps explore assumptions, but its projected result is not a scheme return forecast or an offer.

Read the documents and costs

Before proceeding, review the relevant scheme documents, risk information, exit conditions and applicable charges. Regular plans involve distributor commission and their costs differ from direct plans. Ask Prasar for the actual commission information for the competing schemes under discussion and clarify the costs before authorising a transaction. Do not treat a low instalment amount as evidence of low risk.

Keep the transaction trail and review the purpose

Maintain the application, holder and bank details, mandate records, confirmations and statements. A review can ask whether cash needs, income, residency or the purpose of a holding changed. It need not create a transaction every time markets move. The investor authorises actions; the AMC or platform processes them under its own requirements.

How the process works

  1. Understand. Record the goal, horizon, liquidity and relevant risk circumstances.
  2. Explain. Discuss appropriate scheme information, risks, regular-plan costs and commission.
  3. Facilitate. Support the required holder, bank, KYC and mandate documentation.
  4. Review. Keep statements and revisit the purpose when the investor’s circumstances change.

What to prepare

  • Goal amount or purpose, horizon and affordable contribution
  • Existing investment and liquidity summary
  • Holder, KYC, bank and tax-residence information as required
  • Questions on scheme risk, costs, exit terms and commission

Start with a brief summary. Agree the information, access permissions and secure handoff before sharing sensitive documents. Confirm the scope, responsibilities and any separate professional fees before proceeding.

A practical example

Someone can set aside INR 5,000 a month for a goal ten years away. The first discussion checks emergency liquidity and existing investments, then considers suitable scheme categories and the documents and costs. A SIP estimate tests affordability at different assumed growth rates; it does not select a fund or assure the target.

Common questions

Are returns guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. A SIP does not remove the risk of loss. Read all scheme-related documents carefully.

Does Prasar distribute direct plans?

This distribution service concerns regular plans, which involve distributor commission. Ask for the relevant commission and expense information before investing.

Can an NRI use this service?

Only where the actual residence, AMC or scheme, platform and documentation requirements allow it. Read the NRI preparation guides, then obtain case-specific acceptance before proceeding.
