Who this helps
Families with older folios, changing household circumstances, documents across institutions or one person who holds most of the practical account knowledge.
Separate three different questions
Who owns the asset now, who is recorded with the institution and who has a legal entitlement are separate questions. Do not treat the name in a family spreadsheet as proof of any of them. Check the institution’s current record and involve a legal professional where a will, succession, family structure or dispute needs interpretation.
Create an index rather than a password book
The family record can identify the institution, holder, type of asset, statement location, recorded nominee status and the date last checked. Store sensitive evidence securely and let an appropriate trusted person know where the index is. Access to information is not authority to transact. Do not circulate passwords, OTPs or full identity documents through a general enquiry form.
Use current institution-specific requirements
Nominee updates and transmission are different processes. The documents depend on the holding, holder arrangement, claim and current institutional requirements. Prasar can help organise mutual fund records and coordinate follow-up; the AMC or registrar processes the request. Independent legal and tax professionals must resolve questions that need their expertise. No fixed outcome or completion time is promised.
How the process works
- Index. List institutions, holders and secure evidence locations.
- Check. Compare recorded nominees and contact details with current intentions.
- Assign. Send institution updates and legal questions to the right responsible party.
- Confirm. Retain acknowledgements and review after important family changes.
What to prepare
- Current statements and institutional nominee acknowledgements
- Holder arrangements and relevant contact details
- A secure index of important evidence locations
- A list of questions for the registrar, bank or independent lawyer
Start with a brief summary. Agree the information, access permissions and secure handoff before sharing sensitive documents. Confirm the scope, responsibilities and any separate professional fees before proceeding.
A practical example
An annual review finds a nominee change was requested but no confirmation was retained. The action is to check the recorded status with the institution and keep its acknowledgement. A separate question about a will goes to the family’s lawyer. Closing one record action does not settle the legal question.
Common questions
Does a nominee automatically settle inheritance?
Do not assume that an institutional nomination settles every beneficial-ownership or succession question. Obtain case-specific legal advice where entitlement needs interpretation.
Can Prasar draft my will?
This page offers record coordination. Drafting or interpreting a will requires a separate engagement with an appropriately qualified legal professional.
Can you guarantee a transmission timeline?
No. The institution evaluates the actual claim and supporting documents under its current requirements. Coordination can help track the steps and missing evidence.
